The primary mission of the SDSU Office of International Affairs (OIA) is to foster an environment in which the university's many constituents—administrators, faculty, staff, students, residents of the local community and the state of South Dakota—have varied opportunities to gain appreciation, knowledge, and understanding of other cultures and global trends.

OIA pursues this mission by:

• Facilitating the ability of constituents to travel, study, teach, and engage in international education projects around the world
   
• Promoting outreach activities that help disseminate international information and perspectives throughout the local region and South Dakota
   
• Supporting the land-grant mission of the university by helping to prepare graduates who have international and global perspectives
